Possibly, the most internationally recognized whisky
Scotch is one of the whiskies most recognized worldwide. The rules for its elaboration are strict and the process must be in agreement with the standards of the Scotch Whisky Association of 1990 (UK).
It must be produced in Scotland, it is obtained after a double distillation of a mixture of malted barley and other cereals. Before the fermentation takes place, the cereal is normally dried out over peat, which gives it a smoked character.
The product must be aged in oak casks, not exceeding 700 litres capacity each casks, during at least 3 years; it cannot contain additives other than water or plain caramel used for colouring, it must be bottled at a minimum alcoholic strength of 40 %. The rules for the exportation are strict as well, since January 2015 importers must register at the HM Revenue and Customs so it can verify the activity of the enterprise.
